What does “green” even mean
If you are looking for the platinum standard of environmentally friendly hotels, look for those with LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). You won’t have to look hard - only 50 hotels globally have earned LEED certification. That number is rising quickly, with over 300 more in the pipeline for certification this year.

There are also regional certifications that help travelers make eco-friendly travel decisions on the local level. Since 2004, Florida's Green Lodging program has been setting the bar for Florida resorts with over 621 hotels earning the designation.
